— partner left holding the bag

A purse snatcher made off with more than $200,000 yesterday after a brazen daylight attack.

According to the police, the man snatched the purse belonging to Leladai Goberdhan, 29, of Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara, from the dashboard of a canter being driven by her husband, during a stop at Parika, East Bank Essequibo. The purse contained jewellery and $208,000. The incident took place around 1 pm yesterday.

The purse snatcher escaped in a motor car PJJ 4042, which was being driven by an accomplice but they did not make a clean getaway. A report was made to the police who responded promptly and caught up with the vehicle at a roadblock. The driver of the car was arrested, but the purse snatcher was not in the vehicle at the time.
