New applications for machine readable passports will be processed within seven days with effect from Thursday, a reduction from the previous waiting period of 14 days.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner of Police and Chief Immigration Officer yesterday in a press statement from the police.

It was noted that the waiting period for lost and damaged passports remain the same.

The statement added the staff of the Immigration Department are to be commended for working efficiently towards cutting the waiting period for new passports.
