Man charged with body in suitcase murder

The 42-year-old man accused of killing a 49-year-old man and then stuffing his body into a suitcase appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday charged with murder and was remanded to prison.

Lakram Doodnauth called ‘Chico’ of 30 Bella Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara was not required to plead to the capital offence of murder and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.

It is alleged that Doodnauth murdered Rajah Alli last Saturday. Police, in a press release had said that Alli and Doodnauth were consuming alcohol when an argument ensued between them. This developed into an altercation during which Alli was chopped about his body, and placed in a suitcase which was left under a shed. He was later taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Doodnauth was arrested and later charged.
The matter was transferred to the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court for report on February 9.
