Scam artist collecting money in city’s name

The Mayor and City Council has expressed concern at reports of a scam artist using the name of officers of the municipality to collect money from city businesses.

Public Relations Officer Royston King said yesterday that the council wishes to advise citizens to be aware of an individual who goes by the name of Mark Fraser and approaches business places to solicit funds to install garbage receptacles in the city and to clean alleyways in different sections of the city. The individual uses the names of officers of the council including King’s to collect the money. The council has received several reports to that effect from citizens.

King said that City Hall has no such exercise ongoing and if it were to have an exercise, citizens would be informed by written correspondence.
The council is asking citizens to call City Hall if they are approached by such an individual.
