Libya to set up people’s bureau here

Libya plans to establish a Libyan People’s Bureau in Guyana to further relations between the two countries and to enhance cooperation with Caricom, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported yesterday.

The announcement came as President Bharrat Jagdeo and Libyan revolutionary leader Muammar al-Gaddafi continued meetings with government and private sector officials in Tripoli.

Also coming out of the discussions, a Libyan investment delegation will be visiting Guyana later this month to explore investment opportunities

GINA said during the meeting, the Secretary of the General People’s Committee (GPC) of Libya and President Jagdeo discussed various areas of cooperation between Libya and Guyana and examined ways to strengthen these areas.

The Libyan Jamahiriya Broadcasting Corporation (LJBC) reported President Jagdeo as saying that that he was honoured to meet the Libyan Leader and emphasising the importance of dialogue and the exchange of views on international and regional issues.

Led by President Jagdeo, the Guyana delegation also includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Minister of Tourism Industry and Commerce Manniram Prashad, and Ambassador to the Middle East and Greece George Hallaq and President of the Central Islamic Organisation (CIOG) Fazeel Ferouz.

Participants at the meeting included the Secretary of the General People’s Committee (GPC) of Libya, Acting Secretary of European Affairs of the GPC for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation, Secretary of Arab Affairs of the Committee, Deputy Governor of Libyan Central Bank, assistant Executive Director of the Libyan Investment Association and a number of other experts and specialists.
