Mason charged with unlawful possession of phone

A twenty-one-year-old mason of Grove yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer the charge of unlawful possession.

It was alleged that on January 12 at Georgetown, David Payne of 279 Grove, East Bank Demerara was searched by police and he had in his possession one cell phone believed to have been stolen.

Payne who pleaded not guilty to the charge told the court that the phone was not stolen. “My worship, I buy de phone fuh $10,000 from me friend Dwayne fuh use it.”

He was placed on $10,000 bail. His matter was transferred to Court Two for February 27.
