Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday remanded a 20-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy after they were accused of stealing a loaded gun, when they appeared before her in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The elder defendant subsequently appeared in another court charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Marlon Greene and the teenager were jointly charged with simple larceny while Greene was also slapped with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition charges.

It is alleged that on January 13 the duo stole the .32 pistol from Wajid Ally. They pleaded not guilty to the charge.

On the same day, Greene was found with the pistol and ten matching rounds in his possession, at West Front Road. He also denied these allegations.

When the joint matter was called by Robertson, the two were summoned to the bench, where it was read to them. The mother of the teen was present when the charges were read. They were both unrepresented.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded until January 27.

After the matter was adjourned, Greene was later taken before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton for the firearm-related offences.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read.

The man’s attorney told the court that he was not making a bail application since the most recent act makes the offence non-bailable, unless there are very special reasons.

He said that based on his instructions he has advised his client to plead not guilty.

The magistrate later set April 8 as the date for trial and instructed the prosecutor to summons the witnesses.
