The father of the two-year-old boy who died on Sunday after reportedly falling on a drinking glass in his South Ruimveldt home has been released from police custody.

Commander of `A’ Division Leroy Brumell told Stabroek News yesterday that the man was released on Sunday night. He added that the police are still working to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death of the child, Malaki Osborne.

Meanwhile a post-mortem conducted on the boy yesterday morning gave the cause of death as haemorrhage and shock due to a penetrative wound.

A police press release stated that the examination was conducted by government pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh.
Osborne died at the Georgetown Hospital around 2.45 pm while being treated for a gaping wound to the abdomen.
A police source had told this newspaper that according to the father, the child died after falling on a drinking glass while playing at his Achievement Place, South Ruimveldt home.

According to the source the father, a former policeman, said he was downstairs when he heard a loud crash and upon investigating he saw his son lying on the ground with part of his intestines protruding.

He said he was not sure how his son fell on the glass and could not tell police about the circumstances leading up to the incident. He opined though that the child might have climbed up to pull open a curtain.
He said he rushed the child to the hospital but he was later pronounced dead.
