Kero-throwing matter lands man on assault charge

A 31-year-old man of 36 East Ruimveldt yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault causing actual bodily harm when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It was alleged that on January 26 at Georgetown, Fitzroy Agar assaulted Samantha Collins so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

Agar explained to the court that it was Collins who started it. “My worship we was friends. I de just buy some kerosene oil and I ketch a bus dat she went in.” He went on to say, “She was de one who start assaulting me, pointing she finger in me face and knocking me and while I defending me self some a de kero spill pun she.” He added that she then went to the police station and made a report that he had assaulted her and he was arrested.

Deborah Parris, Collins’ mother who appeared on her behalf since her daughter had returned to French Guiana where she lives, admitted not knowing much about the matter apart from the fact that someone had called and informed her that Agar had thrown kerosene oil on her daughter’s skin.

According to Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith, the duo had previous issues when Agar allegedly had taken Collins’ car to commit robberies.

He was placed on $25,000 bail and his matter was transferred to Court Two for March 3.
