Girl, 3, and taxi driver killed in separate accidents at Essequibo

Two persons, including a three-year-old child, have died and another person was injured in two separate road accidents at Essequibo yesterday.
Abdool Zainool, 46, of Middlesex, Essequibo Coast died after being involved in an early morning accident on the public road at Maria’s Lodge, Essequibo Coast.

The accident occurred around 2:25 am and police investigations revealed that Zainool was driving his car, HB 5037, along the roadway, while a pick-up, GLL 4229, was proceeding in the opposite direction.

“It is alleged by the driver of the motor pick-up that the motor car strayed over into his lane resulting in a collision,” the police said in a statement.
Zainool died on the spot, while passenger Mohamed Zaman, 36, of Vilvoorden, Essequibo Coast, was taken to the Suddie Hospital, where he was admitted with a broken right leg. The driver of the pick-up is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

Meanwhile, at 12:25 pm yesterday, a three-year-old girl was crushed to death in front of her Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo home after a minibus ran over her.

Ariel Sahoye had been taken home from school in the minibus, which usually transports school children, the police said.

The police stated that upon arrival at her residence, Sahoye was put off from the vehicle and “the driver then drove off, apparently not realizing that the child was crossing the road from in front of the vehicle. As a result she was struck down and died on the spot.”
The driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody to assist with investigations.
