A 34-year-old man accused of having carnal knowledge of a girl, who is under 15 years was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Edward Stephens of De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara was not required to plead to the indictable charge of carnally knowing a girl under 15 years and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.

It is alleged that the accused, between December 27 and 29 last year, had carnal knowledge of the minor. After the matter was reported, police conducted investigations and later charged Stephens.

His lawyer told the court that his client was “set-up”. He will return to court on March 3 at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
