Brazilian miner robbed of ATV, shot

A Brazilian miner was robbed of his vehicle and shot at Arimu Backdam, Cuyuni River early yesterday morning.

According to a police press statement sent last evening Osmar Oliveira Da Silva was attacked and robbed by two men and women at approximately 2 am, the males were armed with handguns.

Investigations, the police reported, revealed that Da Silva was in his camp along with another Brazilian when they were confronted by the perpetrators. The robbers took Da Silva’s All-terrain Vehicle (ATV).

Da Silva tried to resist his attackers and was shot in his left leg by one of the men. The robbers then escaped on the ATV.

The injured man was taken to the Bartica Hospital.
