The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development handed over two all-terrain vehicles to the Region Eight (Potaro/ Siparuni) administration to boost monitoring of the region’s work programmes.

Minister Kellawan Lall handed over a John Deere tractor and a double cab-pick up valued at $4.7M and $4.2M respectively, to Regional Executive Officer Ishwar Dass.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Dass said the vehicles will be of enormous help, as only two of the region’s vehicles are currently operational. He said too the vehicles will complement the fleet of all-terrain vehicles the region already has.

Dass said the vehicles will mainly be used to transport teachers and health workers to outlying communities and to conduct outreach exercise in El Paso, Princeville, Tumatumari, Micobie and other areas around Mahdia. They will also be used to deliver supplies. The tractor will be used to assist farmers to transport their produce from farms to market and for garbage collection.
