Contract for East Bank street lights cleared

Cabinet has given the green light for three contracts in the public works sector that make provision for additional street lights along the East Bank among other projects in the power sector.

Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon during his post-Cabinet press briefing yesterday disclosed that $42.1M has been approved for the procurement of switchyard material for the 69 KV sub-station projects at Kingston, Sophia and at Corentyne.

A $19M consultancy contact was also awarded for reforming the legal and regulatory framework of the power sector, and another $137.6M was granted for the installation for street lighting from Providence to Timehri, East Bank Demerara.

Meanwhile, Dr. Luncheon announced that a $381.6M contract was cleared for the aviation sector for the phase two construction at the Ogle aerodrome.  The first phase of the project, which got underway in 2007, involved the construction of a new Class 1A runway of 800 metres, and construction of a terminal building.
