Wife remanded over fatal stabbing at Kurupung

The woman accused of murdering Mohamed Talbot was not required to plead to the indictable offence when it was read to her yesterday by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Michelle Atkinson was remanded to prison and her matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for March 18.

It is alleged that on February 15 at Kurupung, 34-year-old  Atkinson of 34 First Street, Martyrs Ville, East Coast Demerara, murdered Mohamed Talbot of Third Avenue Bartica.

According to reports reaching this newspaper, the miner was allegedly fatally stabbed by Atkinson who was his reputed wife. The incident occurred at Kurupung Landing, Middle Mazaruni on Sunday last.

Talbot and the woman operated a shop at the landing and according to reports the two had an argument during which the woman reportedly picked up a knife and  dealt Talbot a stab to his chest.

The man succumbed to the injury before receiving medical attention.
