The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has launched a nationwide recruitment drive aimed at attracting youth between the ages of 18 and 30.
According to a Government Information Agency press release the drive is being done in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, as several schools in outlying areas have been identified as recruitment centres.

GPF Training Officer Assistant Commis-sioner Clinton Conway in a recent interview said the force is constantly recruiting and has an ongoing walk-in recruit exercise at the Felix Austin Police Training School at Eve Leary.
Interested persons between 17 years, six months and 30 years can visit the school, Conway said. He added that entrants must have a sound secondary education, be physically and mentally fit and have an unblemished police record.

Conway said after undergoing an initial six-month training session, during which recruits are paid, they are then dispatched to different units for 18 months for practical experience following which they are made regular police officers. Outlining some of the opportunities available in the force, the assistant commissioner urged persons interested in the sciences to enrol. Conway said the force “needs to upgrade its forensic capability” and on completion of the state-of-the-art forensic laboratory more skills would be needed to outfit the unit.

The assistant commissioner also said persons who enter the training school with a high level of academic qualifications may be granted accelerated promotion by pursuing training with the Guyana Defence Force Officer Cadet Course to become officers. He said too other opportunities abound including the ability to pursue training at various institutions of higher learning including technical institutes, the university and overseas institutions.
