An accident and emergency unit will be built at the Bartica Hospital shortly and this is expected to enhance the quality of health care delivery to residents, according to Region Seven Chairman Holbert Knights.

Speaking at the region’s flag raising ceremony  at the Bartica Smart Park, Pavilion on Sunday, the regional chairman said that the 2009 budget caters for the region’s hospital to be upgraded and expanded, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported yesterday.
The unit, Knights said, will be constructed on the ground floor of the hospital in addition to a wheel chair ramp.

GINA noted that the administration over the years has constructed and rehabilitated several health centres, clinics and hospitals in almost all the communities and villages in Guyana.

These include the construction of Leonora, Suddie and Mahaicony Diagnostic and Treatment centres.
Meanwhile, training of more health care personnel in emergency care is being done to increase and build strong human resource capacity, GINA stated.
And since the introduction of training programmes more than 2,000 persons were recruited and trained in the medical field to fill vacancies created by  health professionals who have left the service.

With an allocation of approximately $12.8B towards the sector from the 2009 National Budget, more hospitals will be completed to deliver better health services, GINA concluded.
