The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha is hosting chowtal samelan countrywide for this year’s holi festival while its annual Phagwah Mela and Bazaar will be held at its Prashad Nagar kendra.

In a press release the Sabha said over the years the samelans have influenced the creation of new goles (chowtal groups) and strengthened the old ones. Samelans will be held at the Ocean View Mandir, West Coast Demerara today and at the Charity, New Road, Shiv Mandir, Essequibo, the Palmyra Mandir, East Berbice, the Bloomfield Mandir in Central Corentyne, the Number 36 Village Mandir in the Upper Corentyne, the Cotton Tree Mandir in West Berbice and the De Hoop Mandir, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara on Sunday.

Meanwhile the Mela is set for 4 pm tomorrow on the lawns of the temple.

A variety of sweetmeats and other delicacies, crafts and oriental clothing will be available to devotees at the fair. Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud is also expected to address the mela.
