Three men have been taken into custody in relation to the North Sophia shooting which left 15-year-old Warren Scotland dead last Thursday night.

A senior police source told this newspaper yesterday that sometime between Saturday and Sunday the men were taken into police custody.

One of the suspects was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for medical attention late Sunday afternoon. Stabroek News learnt from hospital sources that the suspect underwent surgery on one of his arms.

The suspect’s arm, sources said, had become infected due to a wound sustained before being taken into police custody. Police were still guarding the individual in the Open Ward at GPHC up to press time last night.

Police in a press release issued last Friday said that they were investigating an armed robbery that occurred about 7:55 pm the previous day. Investigations, the release had said, revealed that Scotland “was an onlooker at a group of men who were gaming in front of a shop at North Sophia”.
Two men, according to the police press release, armed with handguns approached the group and held up Rambeer Ghanny who was involved in a game of cards. The armed men then took away a quantity of jewellery and a wristwatch that Ghanny was wearing at the time and subsequently escaped.

While leaving, the police had said, one of the men discharged a round which struck Scotland to the left side of his face. Scotland, the police said, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The police have not yet arrested anyone.

Shaundell Williams, mother of Scotland, told Stabroek News yesterday that she just wanted justice for her son. The teen’s funeral will be held this Saturday, the distressed mother informed.
