Help and Shelter says it has received $3M from the government to rewire and repair its Homestretch Avenue office that was damaged by fire in December.
In a press release the NGO said it is “most grateful to the government for this latest expression of its support for the work that the organisation does to support victims of abuse and reduce all forms of violence in the country.” It also extended gratitude to those who made donations to assist in the fire recovery. “These have been applied towards the cost of cleaning the smoke-blackened office and its contents so that they could be put back in order and some basic administrative functions could be resumed” the release said.
The rewiring and repairs will begin soon and an announcement will be made when the office is ready to be reopened to clients. In the meantime counselling services will continue to be provided at the room made available at the Guyana Citizens’ Initiative office located at 77 Light Street, Alberttown.
