Guyanese American nurses donate to children’s home

The Guyana Red Cross Society Children’s Convalescent Home on Tuesday received a donation from the Guyanese American Nurses Association in Miami.

Association president Juliet Smith-George and members of the Miami-based group sent a barrel containing items such as clothing, toys, bedding, towels, pampers and cosmetics for the Home.

Mayor Hamilton Green handed over the barrel to Administrator at the Home Shaneika Bailey. Bailey said this is not the first time the Association has contributed to the home, noting that they made a donation as recently as last year. She said the donation was timely. Bailey also acknowledged longstanding donors, adding that help is always welcome. Forty-five children from six months to five-years-old reside at the home.

Bailey said too Green had indicated that a portion of the monetary grant that the municipality has gotten from the Japanese government will go towards infrastructural development in D’Urban Backlands and as such the Home will benefit in the process.
