A 27-year-old Matthews Ridge resident who is accused of chopping a man several times about his body was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Collin Abrams was not required to plead to the indictable charge of felonious wounding.

It is alleged that on March 26, Abrams unlawfully assaulted Roley Webber with intent to maim, disfigure or cause him actual bodily harm.

However, Abrams whose right hand bore a large chop wound with several stitches stated that on the day in question he was just acting as a Good Samaritan towards Webber.

He explained that he was on his way home when he observed Webber in a drunken state walking down the road. “We eat and drink together and never had no problem,” so he attempted to assist Webber to his home when “he chuck me, suh I chuck he back.”  An argument then ensued during which the chops were fired.

The prosecution noted that Webber is still hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that Abrams be remanded to prison and that he return to court on April 8.
