A man who said that he broke and entered another man’s home and stole several items because the man had damaged his grass-cutter was sentenced to eighteen months imprisonment when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Carl Paul pleaded guilty to the charge of break and enter and larceny.

It was stated that between March 1 and 18, Paul broke and entered the home of Kenrick Pereira and stole a vehicle tail light, a pair of boots, two cell phones and several other items, totalling $92,000.

Paul stated that he had a disagreement with Pereira who drove his car over his “$122,000 grass cutter”. He said that “I tek mey revenge by breaking in he house and teking them things to repair mey grass cutter.” He said that he sold the items that he had stolen and repaired his grass cutter.

Paul noted that he had spent a year imprisoned because he was wrongfully implicated in a robbery.

Meanwhile, the prosecution stated that Pereira had secured his home and left for the hinterland. When he returned home, he discovered the items missing. Sometime after, Pereira observed one of his friends with one of the items that was  stolen from his home and when he questioned him about it he was told that Paul had sold it to him. Pereira then made a report to the police station and Paul was arrested and charged for the offences.

“I ready to face mey fate cause I get mey revenge,” stated Paul.

The magistrate subsequently sentenced him to eighteen months imprisonment.
