The ‘A’  Division  Management  Committee for  Community Policing Groups  held  their  19th Annual General Members meeting last Sunday  and Rawle Blyden was elected chairman  and Beverley London vice-chairman for 2009.

The AGM was held under the theme ‘Consolidating and organizing for a safer community’ at the Brickdam Lecture Hall, Brickdam Police Station Compound, Georgetown, and  one minute’s silence was observed in memory of  Mrs Janet Jagan, Guyana’s first female president, a press release stated.

The other new office bearers elected to serve for 2009 on the ‘A’ Division Management Committee  are  secretary Pamela Mendonca, assistant secretary Nellie Gordon, treasurer Yamesh Looknauth, co-treasurer Mahendranauth  Persaud, public relations officer Lynette De Weever and  sports organizer Carol Smith. And   Cobeer Persaud and Winston Saunders will be advisors while  the committee members are Ramnauth Persaud, Anton Hartley, Walters Charles, Rupert Jones, Sheila Prescott and Grace Inniss.   The Returning Officer was C. Smith.

Deputy Commander L. Crawford of ‘A’  Division who delivered the keynote address to more than 80 community policing members stressed the importance of community policing in the fight against crime and highlighted the need to work in close collaboration with the Guyana Police Force.

The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports for 2008 were also presented at the AGM.
