Rain to ease, resume

After the heavy rainfall of this week, there should be a break in the weather this weekend, according to an official at the Timehri Met Office.

However, the rains are forecast to start back next week, the official said. Asked whether the recent rain heralded the start of a prolonged rainy spell, the official referred this newspaper to the main Hydromet Office in Georgetown.

The person currently in charge, in the absence of acting chief Hydromet Officer, Bhaleka Seulall, was not available for a comment yesterday but according to a release, today, variable cloudiness is expected over Guyana while some Demerara and Berbice areas as well as Region 9 may experience some isolated showers at times.

Similar weather conditions are likely to continue tomorrow.

However, an increase in rainfall is expected from Monday especially over Regions 3 to 6, 9 and 10.  The long-term daily average rainfall for Georgetown, for the next eight days, up to April 12, is 4.9 mm per day.
