No decision has been taken on filling the vacancy on the ruling PPP’s Executive Committee following the passing of late former president Janet Jagan.

At the time of her death, Mrs Jagan had been one of the 15 members elected to serve on the Executive Committee.

PPP Executive Committee member Ralph Ramkarran told a news conference at Freedom House yesterday that a candidate would be selected at a future meeting of the party’s Central Committee. He explained that there would be nominations from among members of the Central Committee for a candidate to fill the vacant seat on the Executive Committee. Once the nominations are closed, a vote would be held on the nominees that would see the person with the most votes being selected. However, he said a Central Committee meeting has not been fixed as yet.

In addition to Ramkarran, the PPP’s Executive Committee currently includes Ali Baksh, Komal Chand, Navin Chanderpal, Clinton Collymore, Bharrat Jagdeo, Dr Roger Luncheon, Zulfikar Mustapha, Harripersaud Nokta, Reepu Daman Persaud, Robert Persaud, Ulric Ramanah, Clement Rohee, and Gail Teixeira.
