The GRA says motor vehicle owners should be experiencing improved service when obtaining their road licences as it has made adjustments to the Licence Revenue Office Management Information System.

In a press release the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) said the correct name of the owner as printed on the motor vehicle licence and the accurate registration details of the vehicles have been updated to the system. It said persons whose licences had incorrect details and were given return dates to uplift them are being dealt with promptly.

The GRA said too it is extending a three-month grace period that is until June 22, to motor vehicles owners, to obtain their road service licence.

Persons who fail to comply with this deadline will be penalised under the law. “A fine of 10% of the licence cost is the penalty for road services licences purchased after June 22” and trade and miscellaneous licences purchased after June 1.

Persons renewing their motor vehicle licence are required to present their TIN, the previous year’s licence, vehicle registration, fitness and insurance certificates. Additionally, persons buying this licence in Essequibo, Berbice and in Linden are required to provide a photocopy of their vehicle’s registration to be kept by the certifying office and to present their TIN certificate for verification.

Further, the renewal of licences for vehicles registered in ‘G’ for the purpose of transporting goods, except for pickups, open back vehicles and lorries, will only be done at the Licence Revenue Office in Georgetown. Vehicles registered in ‘G’ will be inspected before the licences are issued.

The GRA said the new computerised system will allow it to detect early any unscrupulous activities by owners of motor vehicles and dealers.
