The Easter message is particularly relevant at this time when  the world faces great  challenges leaving many to be concerned about what the future holds, President Bharrat Jagdeo has said.

And extending greetings for a happy Easter,  President Jagdeo  also stated  that, “It is towards this uncertainty and despair that Easter resonates with hope and inspiration announcing that despondency,  so pronounced  on the eve of that very first Easter, will be overcome.”

Easter, the president  noted,  is a time for rejoicing for it commemorates  Jesus’ miraculous resurrection from the dead, an event central to the Christian faith and an affirmation to believers that God never abandons his people but is ever present even amidst trials and tribulations.

Meanwhile, pointing  to Easter as an integral part of the Guyanese tradition, the president observed that this weekend would  see Guyanese taking to the many open spaces to fly  kites and picnic  with friends and families, while others would  participate in events such as the Bartica Regatta and the Rupununi  Rodeo which have become associated with  Easter.

In this light,  the president  urged  all Guyanese “to continue to uphold these traditions because they help to define us as a  nation and to deepen the human and spiritual ties amongst our people.”
