A 23-year-old confectionary vendor yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny from the person when it was read to him by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on April 18 at Georgetown, Eon Peters of 22 Belfield, East Coast Demerara stole from the person of Nidigy Rodney one gold chain valued $35,000, property of the said Rodney.

According to Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram who had no objection to bail, the item was recovered on the defendant’s person and is lodged at the Brickdam Police Station.

When given a chance to speak, the defendant told the court that he has no idea of the incident for which he stands accused. He explained, “My worship, me aint know wah deh talking bout. I went home in me bed sleeping when they claim dat dis thing happen.”

The defendant was then placed on bail in the sum of $30,000. His matter was transferred to Court Six for May 11.
