Airport passengers hurt in Agricola accident

Three persons were injured when a car headed for the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri slammed into the side of a Banks DIH truck along the Agricola, East Bank Demerara Public Road yesterday afternoon.

Lucia Crandon and her 11-year-old son, Tariq Gordon were being transported to CJIA by hire car driver 28-year-old Ainsty Watts. Speaking to Stabroek News at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) Watts said that he couldn’t remember exactly what happened but he knew that he smashed into the side of a truck belonging to Banks DIH.

Reports are that the accident occurred shortly before 1 pm at the Agricola Road Head area; the front of the car was badly damaged while the fuel tank to the side of the truck appeared to be dented. Both vehicles were taken to the compound of the North Ruimveldt Police Station.

Crandon, her son and the driver were rushed to GPH. The woman sustained the most serious wounds and was taken to the X-ray department shortly after her arrival at the hospital. Crandon suffered injuries to her head and neck while the 11-year-old complained of pain in the left leg. Watts, who was in pain, said that he was badly bruised.

“I can’t remember is wah really happen but I know I run into the side of this truck,” Watts said.

Up to late yesterday afternoon the trio was in stable condition.
