The bus driver and conductor, who allegedly dumped the body of 70-year-old Leroy Bobb after running him over, yesterday remained in custody and charges are likely to be laid against them shortly.

Yesterday relatives of Bobb, whose mangled body was found on the Turkeyen public road early on Sunday morning, said a post-mortem examination is to be done tomorrow.

His sister Jean Grumble yesterday said that they have received no further information from the police but she said the family hopes the two are charged soon.

The bus, which operates the Plaisance to Georgetown route, had run Bobb over as he attempted to cross the road at the corner of North Road and Wellington Street.

The driver and conductor had picked him up giving those who witnessed the accident the impression that they were taking him to the hospital.

However, an eyewitness was shocked to see a television newscast that reported Bobb’s body being found at Turkeyen. He told Stabroek News on Tuesday that he recognised the man by the clothes he was wearing and immediately contacted the police.

Acting on information and the description of the red and white bus the police arrested the two men and impounded the bus.

Stabroek News was told that there were signs that attempts were made to remove bloodstains from the bus.
