Corbin medivacced to US

Opposition leader Robert Corbin was yesterday medivacced to New York where he is now hospitalised, according to his brother.

Charles Corbin told Stabroek News that according to reports he received the leader of the PNCR arrived safely in New York and was being transported to the hospital where he would be seen by his doctors.

Corbin had driven himself to the Woodlands Hospital on Saturday morning after he began experiencing chest pains.

He was transferred to the Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI) early Saturday evening where he was until yesterday when he was air dashed to the US.

On Sunday Charles had said his brother was, “…up and speaking and he is stable” and yesterday he said as far as he knew his brother’s condition remained the same.

Corbin was flown to the US as he is still experiencing some discomfort in the form of pain to the chest. His wife, Carol, accompanied him.

On Sunday Charles had said his brother’s physicians had expressed an interest in seeing him.

It was initially thought that Corbin had suffered a heart attack but tests run by the hospital reportedly proved otherwise.

The PNCR in a brief statement on Saturday said that Corbin was hospitalised after complaining of feeling unwell.

It stated that his condition was being evaluated to determine treatment options.

In Corbin’s absence, the party’s acting Chairpersons Basil Williams and Volda Lawrence would act as joint leaders of the party.

Corbin assumed the leadership of the party his predecessor, former President Desmond Hoyte, died of a heart attack in 2002, receiving unanimous support as leader at a Special Delegates Congress in 2003.
