Parika couple beaten, robbed by gunmen

Bandits beat and robbed a Parika couple during an attack on Monday night which resulted in the woman being hospitalized.

Police said that three masked men armed with handguns attacked businessman Krishna Talchand and his wife, Ormilla at their Parika home around 7:30 pm. Talchand was outside in the yard while his wife was watching television at the time of the attack.

The men entered the home through an open door and held the couple at gunpoint. They ransacked the home and carted off a quantity of jewellery, $10,000 in cash and a cellular phone.

The men also beat Talchand and his wife about their bodies with the firearms during the ordeal, a police release said yesterday, resulting in the couple seeking medical attention.

Talchand was treated at the Leonora Cottage hospital while his wife was admitted as a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The release added that the men then fled the scene, and investigations are continuing.
