Plea bargaining brought into force

Plea bargaining and plea agreement procedures can now be used by the Police and other relevant agencies and departments.

Clement Rohee, Minister of Home Affairs, signed an order on Monday “bringing into operation the Criminal Procedure (Plea Bargaining and Plea Agreement) Act 2008, No. 18 of 2008”; which will become effective from Saturday.

A press release issued by the Home Affairs Ministry on Wednesday noted that the legislation was passed in the National Assembly on October 16 last year.
