The Parika woman who jumped from her verandah to escape from bandits was yesterday discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
Ormilla Talchand’s condition was said to be stable. She told this newspaper that she was feeling much better and was happy about going home to her family. According to her however, it will be a while before she can walk properly again.
When asked about any new developments in the matter, the woman’s husband Krishna Talchand told Stabroek News that no one has been arrested since the incident. Talchand explained that they had given statements to the police who told them that investigations are ongoing.
At the time of the robbery, Ormilla had jumped from her verandah in a bid to escape the bandits, suffering a fractured left leg and injuring her spine in the process. She had told Stabroek News that her decision to jump came out of fear of being killed by the bandits. “I was so afraid of them and de verandah was the only place I had to escape while de bandits still went in de house tumbling.”
Police in a press release had said that three masked men armed with handguns attacked businessman Krishna Talchand and his wife, Ormilla at their Parika home around 7.30 pm on Monday. Talchand was outside in the yard while his wife was watching television at the time of the attack.
The men entered the home through an open door and held the couple at gunpoint. They ransacked the home and carted off a quantity of jewellery, $10,000 and a cellular phone.
The men also beat Talchand and his wife about their bodies with the firearms during the ordeal, the release said, resulting in the couple seeking medical attention.
Talchand was treated at the Leonora Cottage hospital while his wife was admitted as a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
