Friendship businessman injured in robbery

Friendship businessman, Odit Narine was shot in a scuffle with bandits on Monday night when they invaded his home and stripped his family of jewellery.

The businessman was closing up when three men, all armed with handguns, confronted him at his East Bank Demerara home, holding him at gunpoint. This was around 8 pm.

Police say that two of the men went into the house with Narine where they held his wife and another female relative at gunpoint while the other gunman stood guard outside.

The men ransacked the house and carted off a jewellery collection estimated at $2.8M.

The businessman got into a scuffle with the armed men during the robbery and was shot. The men then fled. A police press release said that Odit suffered a graze to his right hip, and was later treated at a hospital.

The police are investigating the attack on Odit and his family.
