A Land of Canaan resident was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday afternoon after a tree fell on him while mining in the interior on Thursday.

Forty–two year old miner Walter Milton related to this newspaper yesterday that he and a few colleagues were mining at Tomake, in the Mazaruni area around 3 pm on Thursday when the incident occurred. He said it was raining at the time while heavy winds caused a few branches to fall from some trees nearby.

The miner said while this was happening he suddenly heard a loud crash and soon after the tree fell on him, hitting him in the head. He said he was at the time working with the owner of a dredge operation.
His reputed wife, Etwarie Persaud told Stabroek News that Milton was taken to Bartica on Thursday night to seek medical attention. She said he travelled from Bartica around 5 am yesterday morning and arrived in Georgetown sometime after lunch.

The woman was annoyed that her husband, who has been a miner for over 15 years, was not attended to by a doctor until after 5 pm yesterday. She said his condition appears serious since he sustained a few injuries to his head. The man’s condition  is listed as stable.
