Six months after a 68-year-old woman died during a robbery at her home, the police have arrested three suspects in the murder.

Budhia of Conversancy Dam, Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara died during the incident, which occurred on October 20 last year. The police in a statement said that the three men are in custody assisting with investigations.

Budhia was asphyxiated, a post-mortem examination had revealed. In the early hours of October 20, two bandits, one armed with a gun and another with a knife, had struck at the home and tied up the three female occupants; Budhia, her daughter Basmattie Rampersaud and Rampersaud’s daughter, Shivanie.

The bandits had terrorized the women for about an hour before escaping with more than $1 million in cash and jewellery. Budhia had been tied up and gagged and was heard gasping before she went silent.

One man had been detained following the incident but later released.
