Boy dies chasing after cricket ball

A game of cricket on Saturday afternoon ended tragically for some boys in Perseverance, Essequibo when one of them ran onto the roadway to retrieve the ball and was struck down by a car.

Six-year-old Jarrien Dover of Perseverance, Essequibo was pronounced dead at the Suddie Hospital at around 5:30pm.

Stabroek News understands that Dover and a few of his friends were in a yard playing cricket when one of them struck the ball onto the roadway. Three of the boys ran out to retrieve the ball and while two of them stopped on the curb Dover ran onto the road into the path of a car and was struck down.

He was rushed to the hospital where he died. The driver of car is assisting the police with their investigation.
