Police recovered a .38 revolver and arrested three bandits who robbed the owner of Dutchie’s Restaurant & Bar at Corriverton, Berbice and four customers of about $300,000 in cash and jewellery at around 7:45 pm on Saturday.

Police were on patrol and responded promptly to a report of the robbery and arrested two of the men about 80 yards from the scene. They were still wearing masks at the time of their arrest. Based on further information police arrested a third bandit at Number 79 Village, Coren-tyne and are still searching for the fourth.

Reports are that the masked bandits entered the bar from the western door where the proprietor, Chan Lalta’s wife was sitting. They held the woman at gunpoint and brought her into the store. The bandits then proceeded to rob the customers: Tahendra Singh, Mohamed Razack, Vikash Ramjewan and Krishendat Dat of $18,000 cash, gold and diamond jewellery, cellular phones and two car keys.

After that they took Lalta to his dwelling in the upper flat which they ransacked. They robbed him of $40,000 cash, $72,000 in gold jewellery and a cellular phone. They then brought Lalta back into the shop before escaping.

The lawmen, in a statement last evening said that two of the men were armed with guns while the other two were armed with cutlasses and they recovered an unlicensed revolver with six matching rounds from one of the men captured close to the scene.  Investigations are continuing.
