A 54-year-old man, who allegedly had carnal knowledge of a female without her consent while she was under the age of 16 and who allegedly raped the same girl when she was over that age, was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Clarke Jacobs, a self-employed carpenter, was not required to plead to two indictable charges of carnal knowledge and one of rape.

It is alleged that between November 1 and 20, 2005 he had carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old girl without her consent. He is accused of again doing the same thing between November 21, 2005 and January 2006.

Jacobs allegedly raped the same girl, who is now 17 years old, between November 2008 and February 2009.

However, Jacobs said that he was innocent of the charge.

The girl’s mother also stated that she thinks he is innocent.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that Jacobs be remanded to prison and transferred the case to the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court for June 4.
