Man held after November stabbing victim dies

The man suspected to have stabbed Patricia Rose, the security guard who died at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) on Saturday, was arrested by police yesterday.

Six months ago Rose was allegedly stabbed by her ex-boyfriend. Rose, 44, of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, was attacked while she was on duty at the Georgetown School of Nursing, East Street, on November 1, last year. The man had reportedly scaled the fence and stabbed the woman in her stomach, neck, face and right arm before escaping.

Stabroek News was informed by a police source that the man was apprehended some time yesterday afternoon. However, the circumstances surrounding his arrest are not known by this newspaper.

Rose had spent several weeks in the hospital and was subsequently discharged. However, she returned to the medical institution for treatment recently where she succumbed.

“She never really recovered,” a hospital told this newspaper. “As the weeks passed after she was attack her health slowly got worse…I knew personally as well and I can tell you that she never got over what happened.”
