US$43M not US$63M

The sum of money Guyana is expected to tap into for the next six years from the Rolling Continuation Channel (RCC) of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is US$43M and not US$63M as was reported in yesterday’s Stabroek News. Stabroek News had reported Minister of Health Dr Leslie Ramsammy as saying that the country would access US$21M for the first three years and another US$42M for the remaining three years. However, what the minister actually said was that the country would receive $21M for the first three years and US$42M for the entire six-year period. Stabroek News regrets the error and apologises for any inconvenience caused.

The announcement of the new grant was made by the Global Fund on Wednesday. The money will be used in the country’s HIV programme in areas such as treatment, voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) and Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT).
