Cabinet clears huge contracts for drugs, medical supplies

Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon says Cabinet has given the green light for eight contracts in various sectors including two big ones for drugs and medical supplies.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Luncheon made this announcement at a post-Cabinet briefing held on Monday.

GINA said $22.9M has been cleared for the construction of roads, drains and structures at Block ‘C’ Burma, Region Five. In the health sector US$2.6M has been “green lighted” for the procurement of drugs and medical supplies for the city hospital and US$3.4M has been approved for the procurement of the said supplies for the ministry. There will be particular interest in these as last year there was a furore over the single-sourcing of drugs from the NGPC. The Ministry of Health had later said that more of the contracts would go to tender this year.

In the housing and water sector $21.8M, $40.9M and 33.07M have been approved for the installation of a pure water distribution network at Parfait Harmonie in Region Three and at two separate locations in Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
