Gardener denies ganja trafficking charge

A 39-year-old gardener who was allegedly found with a quantity of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Dave Atherley of 167 Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to him.

Atherley denied that he was found with 260 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking on May 11.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that he be remanded to prison and that the case be transferred to the Christiansburg Magistrate’s Court for May 27.
