Twelve volunteers recently underwent first aid training at the Guyana Red Cross Society (GRCS).

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release the session attracted youths from Regions One and Four. The programme was hosted over several months.

General Secretary Dorothy Fraser said the exercise would add to the GRCS’s workforce. She also underscored the importance of first aid. “There is nothing more valuable to humanity than life knowing that you can make the difference between life and death. One person taking action at the scene of an accident can make the ultimate distinction thus applying their skills to save a life,” she said.

Fraser said the volunteers were trained in CPR and other first aid techniques and they are now equipped to offer expert assistance should someone choke or suddenly stop breathing. She said the training programmes are renowned for giving participants both the skills and confidence to use the techniques they have learnt through a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. The volunteers were given certificates at the close of the programme.
