Fugitive’s prints found at magistrate’s home – police

The police last night said that the fingerprints of shot wanted man Courtney James were found at the scene of the robbery of Magistrate Nigel Hawke.

Magistrate Hawke and his wife were robbed at their home last month.
And the weapon which the now dead fugitive used to commit a string of robberies on the East Coast of Demerara, belongs to the set which went missing from the Guyana Defence Force armoury more than three years ago.

Police recovered the weapon following the shooting to death of James on Monday morning  and army Chief of Staff Commodore Gary Best confirmed to this newspaper yesterday that the weapon is one from the set of 30 which went missing.

The weapon was recovered by police during a raid at a building where he was spotted but managed to escape by jumping from it. Police said eight matching rounds were also found along with a .32 Taurus revolver.

This brings the total number of guns recovered to 18.
