Kazim Mohamed, the La Penitence man who stabbed his brother to death on January 16, 2005, has been found guilty of manslaughter.

Mohamed appeared before Justice James Bovell-Drakes in the High Court last month charged with murder. However, the jury found Mohamed not guilty of murder but guilty of the lesser charge on Monday.

The judge has since ordered a probation report and the matter was adjourned to May 29 for sentencing.

In the January 17, 2005 edition of the Stabroek News, under the headline ‘Brothers row ends in fatal stabbing’, it was reported that 48-year-old Nazim Mohamed was fatally stabbed following an argument with the defendant about the pending return of his son; who was in Trinidad at the time.

State prosecutors Prithima Kissoon and Diana Boyan had based their case entirely on a confession submitted by the defendant. Mohamed’s lawyer Peter Hugh has relied on the same confession to defend his client.

After the probation report is presented to the court on May 29 Mohamed will be handed his punishment.
