A 38-year-old man from Tuschen who allegedly forged and tendered a driver’s licence to a police sergeant was granted bail yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Esan Hamer of Tuschen, West Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and uttering a forged document.

It is alleged that between December 11 last year and May 15 this year, Hamer conspired with others to forge a driver’s licence purporting to show that it was issued by the Licence Revenue Office knowing same to be false.

It is also alleged that on May 15, Hamer tendered to Sergeant Neville Smith a driver’s licence in favour of himself, knowing same to be forged.

The prosecution made no objections to Hamer’s bail application when he suggested it, and it was subsequently granted in the sum of $170,000.
Haymer will return to court on July 10.
