Taxi driver remanded on rape charge

A 24-year-old taxi driver was yesterday remanded to prison on a rape charge when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on December 13, 2008 at Georgetown, Ryan Anthony Craig of 44 Walker Terrace, West La Penitence had carnal knowledge of a female without her consent.

The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.

The unrepresented Craig was subsequently refused bail and remanded to prison. He is to return to court on May 28.
